The Collaboration

Ridlon and Markell collaborate to create something entirely new by combining techniques of painting and collage with stylistic elements of Abstract Expressionism and Impressionism. Their work combines collage and painting into one process. The surface explodes with color and movement.

The color swatches are done on acid free Arches paper. After creating a large group of paintings on paper, they are cut up into smaller pieces and used as the palette. They select and glue each piece to the canvas, integrating pieces from the smaller paintings on paper into one large scale work, creating a collage painting.
